The new after-school care (BSO) of KleintjeZuid has opened its doors in the Rivierenbuurt neighborhood in Amsterdam. The BSO is located in the extension of the Maranatha Church, next to KleintjeZuid's current childcare facility. HOP made the complete building technical and interior design for a play paradise with three group rooms and a group kitchen. The two largest group rooms are connected and a mezzanine was added in both rooms. With the permission of the supervisors, the children can walk around infinitely via the arched portal above and the connection below. Food for breaks is prepared in the large group kitchen where children can help cook on a lowered kitchen worktop.

Natural materials form the basis of the architectural design, with a huge hempcrete colored wall between group room 1 and 2, marmoleum floors made from recycled cocoa husks and a lot of wood used in the structures and fixed furniture. The interior design features warm natural/earthy color tones and the addition of permanent play elements, such as a hanging net, walkable glass, arches with play activities and a climbing track next to the stairs. There is something to do or discover in every nook and cranny!
