A unique home with a relaxed atmosphere, full of colour. For this home in Amsterdam East, we extended the ground floor, the floor was lowered for more height, and the layout was completely reconfigured. The kitchen plays a central role in the extension. The large kitchen island is oriented towards the dining table and the garden behind, allowing the residents to spend hours and hours cooking.
The extension features a 4-metre-high blue steel window. The doors can be folded aside completely, giving you the feeling that even if you’re inside, you are sitting in the middle of your garden. The large window frame, together with the skylight, makes the space very bright and sunny. The light works really well with the natural plaster clay.
The design is part of a sustainable renovation of the entire building, where we have realised three homes. The owners themselves live on the ground floor and the first floor, the other floors are rented out. The building has a new foundation, all walls are insulated and hybrid heat pumps together with solar panels have led to a much lower energy demand.
